Explore the Physics that make our world mysterious and wonderful through play.
Ethers is a game series that allows students to play with complex Physics forces that are difficult to simulate in a traditional classroom environment.

Jump into the beautiful world of fluids, where you create currents to move balls, break boxes and collect coins.
As of December 2014, the Fluid Ether is no longer being actively maintained, and may not work properly on your device or operating system.
Fly through outer space, where zero gravity is the norm and planets’ masses are constantly pulling each other into crazy orbits and collisions.

Each game has challenge levels with specific goals, and students must intuitively learn about the forces involved to solve the level. The easy-to-use level editor allow students to build their own levels and experiment with the forces involved in a no-mess, accessible and open-ended environment.
Back in the 1800’s there was this widespread idea in science that the world was a sort of blank slate, on which you plopped things like fluids or fields (then called “Ethers”) to produce physical laws. We take this sort of view to our game series–we want to break the world down into each of its individual Ethers. Each game is one view of the physical world, one insight into a particular ether that determines how things around us move and react.
We have a strong philosophy and track record of inquiry-based education. This game is not a curriculum or a lesson plan, but rather a tool that supports inquiry and project-based instructional techniques. Like many tools, we expect it to be hacked and broken – meaning used in many different ways by many different teachers.
Here’s a quick preview of the teacher dashboard that is part of every game in the series and lets you monitor your students’ progress.
