RESEARCH

Gathering and evaluating program data is critical to our understanding of our program’s effectiveness. We undertake this task continually, and contribute regularly to academic discourse via publications and conference presentations.

RESEARCH RESULTS

We strive to carry out pre and post assessments, mid-program surveys, and long-term impact assessments for each program participant. Our learning goals are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.

We have been awarded a five-year NSF grant (called Be a Scientist!) to measure the longitudinal impact of our program on our Family Science Course participants.

Parent Surveys

In Fall 2008 we surveyed 361 parents from 8 schools at back-to-school nights and in 2009 we surveyed 943 parents from 14 partner schools in South Los Angeles. The  surveys aimed at understanding what parents wanted out of the Family Science Courses and what further support they needed.

Results from a follow up phone survey conducted with families after one year of their participation in a Family Science Course.
