The 2013 challenge is to develop an app that solves a problem in your local community. This could be a health problem that affects your community, a social problem, or even a lack of a resource. Be creative, the problem can be anything you feel is important to solve. You can use open sources to get data or look at the missions of non-profits to help identify a meaningful problem. Remember to research the problem and back up claims with credible statistics. Most of all, choose a problem that you are passionate about, and have fun!
