High School Explainers Internship Program (ages 14-18)- Spring dates TBD

 

Iridescent is launching the Iridescent Explainers Program – an internship program beginning this fall for high school students to support field trips and our Be An Inventor after school program for elementary and middle school students at our LA science studio.  We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated high school students interested in science and engineering to serve as mentors and educators for younger students, generate ideas, and help us build and test hands-on activities. High school applicants will go through a competitive application process including an in person interview.

Be an Inventor – After School Program (ages 8-12)


Elementary School students will explore science and engineering, learning concepts and building projects under the guidance of Iridescent staff and High School Explainer mentors. Inventors will complete their graduation requirement of a science exit project, and have the chance to show off what they’ve developed at an Engineering Faire before Winter Break. The program is free-of-charge and applicants are required to submit a short application upon entry to the program.

Engineering Field Trips

ThF 8:00am-12:00pm, Oct 11 – Dec 15, 2011

Elementary and middle school classes are invited to the Iridescent Los Angeles Science Studio for free-of-charge engineering field trips beginning 10/13/2011. In an Iridescent engineering field trip, students will work with Iridescent staff and High School Explainers to learn science concepts and design and build a variety of design challenge projects. Each student will walk away with: a handful of projects they have created related to Aerospace Engineering, Biomimicary,and Robotics, and an Iridescent Making Machines book to continue building and learning at home.

Family Science

Thursdays 6:00pm-8:00pm, February 8- March 1, 2012

The Iridescent Family Science Program invites elementary school students and their families to learn science concepts, and design and build projects applying those concepts, while working with university and professional engineering instructors and mentors. Family Science programs are free for schools and families. Fall Family Science programs will be running at the Iridescent Science Studio from mid-October through Thanksgiving.
