Families create smart solutions
Artificial Intelligence should be accessible to everyone
Artificial Intelligence isn’t new – researchers have been working on machine learning and AI for 5 decades. But for the rest of us, it seems like AI is suddenly everywhere we turn. And it seems pretty threatening. With 45% of the activities that people are paid to perform today at risk of being automated, things can seem pretty grim.
But there’s a lot of potential for AI to do social good. There are applications for AI in public safety, public education, public health, agriculture, and more. AI can be a tool for us to achieve enormous change in local communities – and we believe it should be a tool that everyone can use. Which is why we’re launching the Curiosity Machine AI Family Challenge and making AI technology and concepts accessible to students and families around the world.
About the Challenge
The Curiosity Machine AI Family Challenge invites families to learn about Artificial Intelligence technology. Over the next 2 years, 3rd-8th grade students and their families will explore core concepts of AI research, apply AI tools to solve problems in their communities and have the opportunity to enter their ideas into a global competition.
Partner sites can apply for funding by completing our Request for Proposals
We are proud to work with the following organizations to make the Curiosity Machine AI Family Challenge possible.
The Curiosity AI Family Challenge curriculum will explore core AI concepts like parallel processing, and neural networks as well as data science concepts and simple algorithms. The curriculum will also cover more foundational material, including the basics of electronics and computational thinking.
Sneak Peek: Foundational Units
Try out some of our existing design challenges, which explore foundational concepts like basic circuitry, basic mechanics, motors, and more.
Create a circuit that has no metal wires and uses at least three different conductors.
Engineer a robot that turns itself off when it leaves a safe area.
Build a mechanical robot inspired by nature.
